Seward, Alaska (July 3)

Because of a gale, we skipped Kodiak in an effort to get ahead of the storm. But still it’s been a very rocky 48 hours, and the stack of motion sickness bags by the elevator has dwindled…

So it was a treat to set foot on solid ground in Seward even though it was overcast and drizzly when we arrived. The town was getting ready for its annual Fourth of July celebration, and the street fair was in full swing preparing for the annual the annual race to the top of Mount Marathon. Seward, named for President Lincoln’s Secretary of State who bought Alaska in 1867, is known as the gateway to Kenai fjords, the starting point of the famous Iditarod Dogsled race, and stunning sceneries.
