Phuket, Thailand (May 13-14)
Phuket rivals Bali for mellow “destination” travelers. Phuket is the largest Thai island and sits on the western (Andaman Sea) side of the country. Phuket has beautiful beaches, a laid back vibe, and legal marijuana! Think “Spring Break” atmosphere, and that’s Phuket. Phuket town is bustling, but only serves as a base for nearby island hopping. Conversely, Patong Beach, over the hill on the other side of Phuket town, is on a beautiful beach, is more chaotic and has a vibrant nightlife. Truly a young singles paradise. Other beaches, resorts, and nearby islands are a big draw.
We spent our first day on a charter out to Phi Phi islands to swim and snorkel. Unfortunately, our travel companion slipped on the boat, broke her kneecap, ankle, and thumb, so we headed back to the Phuket hospital; the hospitals and medical care are amazing. Day two was mostly spent in the hospital followed by a quick tour of Patong Beach. The underwater phone protector was not a great success, so all of my pictures of the colorful fish were blurry.
The local population is about 75% Buddhist, and many houses, shops, and businesses have little streetside shrines.
Love all of these pics. What a great adventure you're having. xo - Kay
ReplyDeleteSorry for the broken bones. We had to cut a trip to Croatia short for similar mishap. Not to mention pain and recovery time. All healed in the end. FB
