Cape Town, South Africa (Apr 4-6)
Cape Town, the oldest city in South Africa, the “Mother City”, and the seat of Parliament, is the second largest city in South Africa after Johannesburg, the country’s capital. The Dutch East India Company founded it as a supply station in 1652. Tourism dominates the economy, and Table Mountain dominates the landscape.
Our first day was a ship-organized outing to Boschendal winery in the Franschhoek region of South Africa’s wine country. Stunning location! Second day we took advantage of “civilization” (i.e. Apple Store, department stores, etc)) to stock up on supplies and back up phones, computer, and iPads, followed by lunch and brief driving tour, including the colorful Bo Kapp Moslem neighborhood and Lion’s Head mountain, with fellow MacJannet board member Carole Hambleton. Third day was wandering around the highly developed waterfront area with its myriad shops, galleries, and hotels.
Day One (April 4)
Love the photo of you two with the flowers in Panama hats! And Thanks for the other Capetown pics as well. I’ve always wanted to go to South Africa.
ReplyDeleteWe are still hanging with Austin and Maddie and San Diego and having lots of fun, but we miss you both. Wish we could be there, or you could be here! Hurry home 😊
Friends spent a year there on sabbatical, with their two kids, and totally loved the experience - place people, (politics not so much).FB
ReplyDeleteWill be in Cape Town for 4 days in June. I know we are going to the table mountain, to see the penguins and for the wine tour. We might have a few mornings to explore on our own. Any places you suggest as must haves?
